Spa and hot tub checklist playbook

Goal

Install a spa or hot tub circuit that meets disconnect, bonding, and protection requirements.

Inputs you must know before you start

  • Spa/hot tub nameplate and installation instructions.
  • Location (indoors/outdoors) and distances to receptacles and disconnects.
  • Available panel capacity and circuit path.

The path (in order)

  1. Confirm circuit requirements and GFCI protection.
  2. Place the disconnecting means within the required range.
  3. Install bonding for required metal parts and equipment.
  4. Verify receptacle placement limits around the spa.
  5. Label and test the system.

This is

A checklist for spa and hot tub electrical compliance.

This is not

A guide to spa foundation, plumbing, or equipment selection.

Inspection-ready checklist

  • Circuit and GFCI protection match equipment requirements.
  • Disconnecting means in the correct location.
  • Bonding completed for required metal parts.
  • Receptacle placement limits maintained.
  • Labels and operation verified.

Worked example

A 240V spa is installed on a patio. You install a GFCI-protected circuit, place the disconnect within the allowed distance, bond nearby metal parts, and confirm receptacles are outside the restricted zone.
